Regional Forum on Digital Accessibility

Internet Society Pakistan Islamabad Chapter is organizing ‘Regional Forum on Digital Accessibility’ on 07th February 2019 at Ramada Hotel, Islamabad. The Forum will focus on the use of ICTs to address challenges for Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in digital domain, the lack of access to technology and Internet in South Asian region, particularly for PWDs. This is a pioneer event in the region where chapter leaders from other countries will also participate and share their country perspective on the use of ICTs to address disability challenges and the lack of access to technology in South Asian region, particularly for PWDs.

Pakistan is one of the leaders in this subject as the recently issued Digital Pakistan Policy also includes a dedicated chapter on empowerment PWDs. The Forum aims to highlight the best practices as replicable solutions for PWDs that have been undertaken in Pakistan and South Asia. Internet Society Pakistan Islamabad Chapter has been actively supporting the agenda of digital accessibility. The chapter is part of a multi-stakeholder ICT Accessibility working group that has spearheaded multiple endeavors including several workshops as well as a national Mobile App Awards challenge held in collaboration with the national telecom regulator (PTA). The forum will be attended by approx. 100 representatives from stakeholders of Internet accessibility in Pakistan and regional countries.
